What Cupping Provides

Our bodies deal with stress on a daily basis (be it your job , competing in sports, yard work, etc) which can cause the muscles to stay constantly hyperactive. Muscular stress diminishes blood flow creating a state of hypoxia in the tissue which causes additional pain and inflammation within the body. Pain and inflammation can spread to other areas of the body through compensation without effective treatment and stress management. Cupping helps to increase blood flow, oxygen, and nutrients to areas with inflammation, pain, or injury. The distraction stimulation provided from the cups potentially reduce sensitivity of nociceptors which are responsible for detecting threat or harm.

Is It Painful?

Cupping is a painless procedure that uses air pressure and suction to traction the skin. You may feel a tugging or stretching sensation in the skin. We leave the cups on anywhere from 10 seconds to 8 minutes. We may also perform some gentle movements with the cups on, as well as slide the cups across the skin which is called massage cupping. You can trust On Track Physiotherapy to also provide different treatment methods to improve your overall well-being when appropriate.
